No it doesn't! He could be sad due to various reasons, a loner....there are many reasons. Manic depressive is a completely different diagnosis. One scene isn't going to show that.

now compare this with how i've described the character when the first shot opens:
the guy's sitting alone, with his expression saying that he doesn't want to be near any person...
i think that establishes a certain level of manic depression...

maybe we should let the expressions do the talking...

very funny ankur. and, jump cut has been used just once--the others are normal cuts used in all movies. the jump cut was placed there to condense the action, plus indicate the change in tone--from the loneliness of the first shot to the more urgent second shot...

I meant blacking out not only in the sense of fade to black but the jump cuts too. Oh, and the Lord of the Flies association isn't there now that it's obvious he's imagining.

Still, it isn't obvious he's a manic depressive. Maybe it could be shown...oh, I dunno, he's slitting his wrists or something while imagining everyone is bowing down in front of him. I would have suggested Aztec style executions but that will be difficult to shoot.
